Project NEW HERA – Two-day workshops in Cyprus on innovation and development: designing and implementing effective digital assessments in vocational training (VET)
The European project NEW HERA, conceived in response to the growing need to enhance the digital and pedagogical skills of teachers and trainers, has recently achieved significant success with new digital up-skilling activities abroad for educators held in Cyprus, at the premises of the partner Synthesis. The two-day workshop saw the participation of teachers and trainers from various European Union countries, including Italy, France, and Belgium, further solidifying the positive outcomes of the initiative, following previous training sessions held last November in Nice.
In the dynamic realm of education, the key to effective learning lies in crafting engaging and practical methodologies. Throughout the various sessions, participants were provided with an in-depth overview of integrating gamification into assessments, thus transforming the learning process into a stimulating and meaningful experience.
During the training, by precisely defining assessment objectives, the importance of aligning them with educational goals was emphasized. Participants learned to support these objectives with SMART criteria, ensuring accurate and results-focused assessment. The practical approach for participants continued with exploring assessments based on different scenarios, demonstrating how these mimic real-life situations and emphasizing their effectiveness in enhancing the practicality of learning.
Subsequent sessions on gamification have opened new avenues in the approach to learning, transforming the educational process into an engaging and meaningful experience. In-depth analysis of gamification principles, along with discussions on the delicate balance between competition and collaboration, provided trainers with practical tools to make assessments more stimulating and relevant.
The participation of teachers from different countries has created a context rich in perspectives and experiences. Equipped with the knowledge gained, participants are now prepared to transform their classrooms into dynamic and inspiring environments, guiding the direction of vocational education through innovative digital assessments and engaging approaches.
